I have tried to put down all my lesson learnt in the Ashoka University admission process for undergraduate studies.
1. Use an email address which can be shared between applicant and parent so that this can be readily used by both when required. The online test also requires the student to login to the email account to receive instructions. Ensure the registration e-mail and password are known to both student and parent.
2. Ensure you have the following e-mail ids in your contacts/address book to ensure that mails from Ashoka University are received in inbox.
admissions@ashoka.edu.in
financialaid@ashoka.edu.in
Some e-mail sites might mistake the mails as spam and move it to those folders.
3. The first step is to register your user id which the e-mail id and a password. Keep the details written down somewhere so that they can be referred to.
4. Before you start the application download the sample application and prepare thoroughly.
List down all certificates of your ward has won in the past 4 years so if he or she is in 12 th class now list from 9th class onward.
Extracurricular - 5 Nos., Co-curricular - 5 Nos., Miscellaneous Extracurricular - 2 Nos., Social Impact - 3 Nos., Leadership 3 Nos., Miscellaneous - 2 Nos.
Scan certificates as pdf documents.
If you are a resident of Haryana please get a resident certificate from local Zilla Parishad office.
5. For the recommendation be in close touch with the recommender. Before submitting the form click on Notify recommender button on the form which is below details of recommender. This will send an intimation to the recommender for submitting the recommendation. Check with the recommender. This will ensure that the system recognizes the e-mail of the recommender. Keep checking with recommender if he/she have received a link for submitting the recommendation.
The recommendation should be submitted by one of the applicant's teachers. Suggest to recommender to have "admissions@ashoka.edu.in" in contacts/address book to ensure that mails from Ashoka University are received in inbox.
6. Apply in 1st round so that it can take some pressure off board exams.
7. Write an essay as required in the application.
Following are some questions which could be answered in the recommendation:
a. Since how long have you known the applicant and in what capacity?
b. Please comment on the strengths of the applicant or what are the most outstanding qualities of the applicant?
c. Please comment on the weaknesses of the applicant or what are the areas of improvement?
d. Please state the peer group against which you have compared the applicant
e. Rate ability to take initiative and academic performance
f. How strongly do you recommend the applicant.
g. While expressing the strengths or weaknesses one should use specific examples.
Had done the following preparation for son's interview:
a. A plastic folder with all original documents with cover sheets mentioning all details as entered in the Ashoka application.
b. Balance certificates with cover sheets and papersheets
c. Headlines from newspapers of past six months preferably related to the UG course opted for.
d. Cut outs of important newspaper articles related to te UG course opted for
e. Compilation of what one could do for interview based on Quora.
